English Corner: Fish or Fishes

Hm..... Kan kakak dah cakap..... Kakak nie sekarang memang selalu la kena memperbetulkan English kakak nie ha..... maklumlah, kena prepare report untuk Management, prepare minutes of meeting, review report and minutes from other unit, dan macam2 lagik la..... Maklum la.... merangkap semua jawatan di office ini..... Auditor pun iye, secretary pun iye, PA pun iye.... tea lady kadang-kadang (bile time meeting Lembaga Audit jer....).. hehehehe...

Waktu prepare minutes nie, ade la pulak perkataan 'sales of fish'.... tetiba kakak tertanya sendirik... kenapa sales of fish.... why not sales of fishes..... FISH or FISHES????

The answer is......

Fish is used either as singular noun or to describe a group of specimens from a single species.
Fishes describes a group of different species.

- from Pakcik Wikipedia

For example:

Fish: One salmon is a fish, three salmons are 3 fish.
Fishes: One salmon and one flounder are 2 fishes.

So...... nak guna sales of fish or sales of fishes???? nie nak kena tanya balik member yang buat audit nie.... depa jual satu jenis ikan ke, or pelbagai jenis ikan..... huh!!!!
